Our mission: Rethink value creation

Data, platforms, innovative technologies and new customer expectations are changing models of value creation for manufacturing companies. New digital business models emerge and existing ones change. These developments have the potential to fundamentally change companies and change our economy as a whole.

Understanding mechanisms, showing opportunities and making recommendations—that is the mission of the working group on "Digital Business Models in Industrie 4.0". First, the working group analyzes the basic mechanisms of digital business models. On this basis, it determines opportunities and challenges. Finally, the working group on Politics and Business shows ways in which the potential of digital business models can be exploited.

Objectives: To make potential visible and create framework conditions

With regular external input, this working group invites companies and other stakeholders to engage with digital business models. What are the drivers of innovation? How do culture and organization change in companies? For questions such as these, the working group provides discussion papers with its input papers. At the Hannover Messe 2019, opportunities and challenges of digital business models as well as first options for action will be presented in a comprehensive report.

Structure and mode of operation: Use Cases ground the discussion

Founded only in March 2018, this working group is already up and running with a reliable compass and a clear course. A work program lays out the plans for the coming months. Around 40 experts from manufacturing companies, trade unions, industry associations and research institutes bring their perspectives to the working group. They always discuss concrete use cases so that the results of the working group are grounded and practice-oriented.
