Germany and Republic of Korea: Cooperation rests on many shoulders

The cooperation with the Korea Smart Manufacturing Office (KOSMO) is organised in close cooperation with the strategic partners LNI 4.0 (testing and standardisation), SCI 4.0 (international standardisation) and Plattform Industrie 4.0 (strategic framework and cyber security). The shared goal is to promote innovation and interoperability for Industrie 4.0 solutions. This is particularly intended to benefit the small and medium-sized enterprises of both Germany and Republic of Korea.

The focus of the cooperation is on standardisation, especially by testing and implementing the Asset Administration Shell, the OPC UA standard and other Industrie 4.0 applications. In addition, experts from Plattform Industrie 4.0 and KOSMO are working closely together in the area of cyber security. A dialogue on GAIA-X is also running throughout the cooperation with particular reference to manufacturing. The cooperation is accompanied by a Steering Committee.

Background

Germany and Republic of Korea have been in dialogue on the digital transformation of industry since 2017. Relations were further consolidated and cultivated through delegation visits and workshops at the Hannover Messe 2019 . In December 2020, the lead partners of the German-Korean cooperation, LNI 4.0 and KOSMO, signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding, in the presence of the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, Peter Altmaier, and the former Korean Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Start-ups, Young-sun Park (press release).
