Manufacturing-X initiative strategically realigns its organisation
Introduction
With the start of the implementation of further data ecosystems under the umbrella of Manufacturing-X, the structure of the initiative is also changing from a development organisation to an implementation and scaling organisation. To reflect the new key tasks and objectives, cross-project working and decision-making bodies will be introduced in the form of the Guidance Board and the associated Topic Groups. The members of the former Steering Committee Manufacturing-X (SC4MX) have also decided on a new direction - including a new name and a new governance structure.
In addition to the name change to Manufacturing-X Council Germany (MXCG), a new governance structure was unanimously approved. This structure is intended to support the reorientation towards an implementation organisation for Manufacturing-X at the national level, while at the same time ensuring international connectivity. The MXCG sees itself as a coordinating body for cooperation between stakeholders from industry, associations, and politics to shape a common vision for digitally and internationally networked value chains and to formulate the implementation strategy.
The new key tasks of the MXCG
The tasks of the MXCG are derived from the management resolutions of the Plattform Industrie 4.0 and focus on the following areas:
Formulation of the vision and strategy of the Manufacturing-X initiative
Formulation of the overall view on Manufacturing-X
Vice of the Manufacturing-X initiative to partners and stakeholders
Bridge between national and international activities
Members of the MXCG act as ambassadors
MXCG as a central element of the coordination structure for Manufacturing-X
The MXCG is the central hub within the coordination structure and primarily oversees strategic national Manufacturing-X activities. It also acts as a bridge between national and international partners. Further details on the elements of the structure can be found in the MXCG Memorandum.
Industry and political representatives confirmed as spokespersons
Ernst Stöckl-Pukall (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action) and Thomas Hahn (Siemens AG) were unanimously confirmed in the two central spokesperson roles: Stöckl-Pukall as Spokesperson Politics National & International and Thomas Hahn as Spokesperson Industry National & International. Both accepted the election and will now act as official contacts and coordinators for national and international cooperation within the initiative.
The Manufacturing-X Council Germany (MXCG)
The Manufacturing-X Council Germany (MXCG) is the governing body for the national cooperation of the Manufacturing-X initiative and supports and shapes the development of the overall vision and strategy of the Manufacturing-X initiative under the umbrella of the Plattform Industrie 4.0. It also supports the implementation of the actions with the aim of creating a common vision of digital ecosystems for industry. In this role, the MXCG reports to the Steering Committee of the Plattform Industrie 4.0 on the progress of the initiative, projects, resolutions, and open issues.
It also operates as a communication channel between data ecosystem projects in Germany and other relevant stakeholders from politics, industry, and research. It appoints the German delegates to the International Manufacturing-X Council (IMXC) and is thus the link to International Manufacturing-X and other international stakeholders.
Additionally, the committee acts as a discussion and mediation authority in the event of questions, unresolved issues or conflicts regarding the cross-project objectives of Manufacturing-X in relation to jointly used concepts, modules and technologies.
