“Industrie 4.0-Tag” event in Baden-Württemberg: An industrial region standing together
Introduction
Baden-Württemberg is an attractive region for industry. Corporations and medium-sized market leaders based in this part of Germany are working hard on industrial digitalisation. The regional alliance ‘Allianz Industrie 4.0’ and Stuttgart’s regional office of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) closely cooperate with Plattform Industrie 4.0 in order to provide implementation support to companies. The event day ‘Industrie 4.0-Tag’ in Stuttgart was the first big highlight of this cooperation. During this event, particular attention was paid to the first steps along the road towards Industrie 4.0.
As a result, companies from Baden-Württemberg showed great interest in the “Industrie 4.0-Tag” event: on 21 February 2017, over 230 participants filled up the event space at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Stuttgart and every seat was taken. The question addressed during this event day was: how can we manage the challenges posed by digitalisation together?
In the search of answers to this question, participants looked at industrial digitalisation from different perspectives: experts from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as academics and trade union representatives took part in the discussion rounds. What became clear is that some companies from this region have already managed to successfully digitalise their production while many other companies have already started to think about strategies and possibilities of implementation. This is an important step towards the future of industry. However, particularly when it comes to implementation, many people wonder: what does Industrie 4.0 mean for my company and for the various business units? What is the best place to start and where can we gather ideas and inspiration?
Within the unprecedented context of cooperation between Plattform Industrie 4.0, the Allianz Industrie 4.0 and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce IHK Region Stuttgart, the event provided significant impulses: Participants listened attentively to the speeches and discussions, like the presentation given by Ernst Stöckl-Pukall, Head of Unit for Digitalisation and Industry 4.0 at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. He presented Plattform Industrie 4.0 as well as other central initiatives such as the Labs Network Industrie 4.0, which support companies in the implementation of Industry 4.0 .
During workshops, representatives from the working groups within Plattform Industrie 4.0 provided information on results as well as practical recommendations for action. The main focus was placed on uniform standards, IT security and the legal framework. There were also some practical examples providing inspiration: companies from the region – medium-sized enterprises and large companies alike – shared their experiences and provided insights into their digitalised production sites.
Most of the companies represented on the panels (Bird & Bird LLP, Daimler AG, Festo GmbH & Co. KG, PSI Automotive & Industry GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Sick AG, Trumpf GmbH + Co. KG, thyssenkrupp AG), as well as research centres (Fraunhofer IAO, University of Stuttgart) and associations (VDMA, IG Metall) are already active within the framework of Plattform Industrie 4.0.
