The publication addresses professionals and decision makers from industry and politics who want to develop a basic understanding of AI technologies and applications for the security of networked systems. It underlines that the very dynamic development of AI in this segment can generate a variety of economic benefits. At the same time it must also be seen as a source of new security risks, thus requiring new defense strategies. The paper explains the basic technical mechanisms of action of modern AI concepts and their influence on security concepts. The central security requirements of Industrie 4.0 are summarized.
