More than 700 participants joined this years international conference 'Shaping a globally secure Industrie 4.0 Ecosystem - Enabling international interoperable security policies'. Once more the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Plattform Industrie 4.0 brought together key players to discuss the future of IIoT security. The three day conference agenda offered a variety of formats: Key notes, 18 presentations, a panel discussion with regulators from four national and international institutions, and a live interview with a representative from the Federation of German Industries.

Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Germany) and Max Lemke (Head of Unit E.4 for Internet of Things in DG CONNECT, European Commission) opened the conference with their welcome speeches. The following session on trustworthiness presented a broad overview of the recent achievements. Additionally, a demonstator presented the practical implementation of the concept of trust. Interoperability was the topic of the afternoon session and was discussed based on three presentations. The day was summed up by a Recap Panel.

The second day had the motto 'Policy approaches, digital sovereignty and the role of GAIA-X'. A live interview with Dr. Thomas Koenen (Head of the Department for Digitization and Innovation, BDI) started the session. To portray the different policy approaches on a national and international level, the panel discussion brought together four representatives from regulatory bodies. Digital sovereignty and the role of GAIA-X was discussed in the afternoon session by Prof. Keunhee Han from Korea, Dr. Thomas Usländer (Fraunhofer IOSB), and the interim CEO GAIA-X AISBL, Hubert Tardieu. During the recap panel, Michael Jochem (Robert Bosch GmbH / Plattform Industrie 4.0) and Dr. Lutz Jänicke (Phoenix Contact / Plattform Industrie 4.0) were interviewed about the advancements since the 2018 conference and about their expectations for the future.

Day three 'Paper session and transfer to SMEs via demonstrators' focused on the latest scientific results. It explored the way Industrie 4.0 security solutions can be transferred to small and medium enterprises. The discussion included presentations on the asset administration shell (AAS), trustworthiness and agile regulations. During the demonstrator session, we saw four presentations on demonstrators and experienced a vivid Q&A session. Michael Jochem (Robert Bosch GmbH / Plattform Industrie 4.0) used the closing remarks to reflect the past days and ended the conference 'Shaping a globally secure Industrie 4.0 Ecosystem - Enabling international interoperable security policies' with a call for more international cooperation.
