The aim of the trilateral cooperation between Plattform Industrie 4.0, Alliance Industrie du Futur and Piano Impresa 4.0 is to press ahead jointly with existing digitalisation processes in the spirit of the European ideal. This trilateral cooperation is focused on three core topics, and they in turn will be dealt with in three joint working groups:

Standardisation and reference architecture models. Common standards are essential for a digitalised industry. So the first working group will identify relevant standards, coordinate efforts made toward standardisation, work on the harmonisation of an administration shell, and find ways of integrating SMEs in the field of standardisation. The group will benefit here from the achievements of the Franco-German working group.

SME integration and testbeds. In order to make digitalisation more accessible for SMEs, the second working group will collect and combine example applications from all three countries, disseminate and complete Industrie 4.0 scenarios, and promote an international network of test infrastructures.

Political support. Industry needs favourable framework conditions if it is to benefit efficiently from digitalisation. So the third working group will exchange ideas about best practices from political solutions and programmes from many different sectors and levels, coordinating common positions of the three countries at European level and international forums.

Initial cooperation talks between the three national initiatives were held in Berlin in March 2017 at the high-level conference 'Digitising Manufacturing in the G20'. Since then, a joint plan of action has been developed, in which various measures and scheduled results have been named. On 20 June 2017, the plan was adopted by the Board of Cooperation at a first joint meeting in Turin, Italy. Experts from industry, science and politics from all three countries are now continuing work steadily on the three core topics.
